Inner Mongolia Medical University (IMU), located in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is a multi-disciplinary higher medical college with its focus on medicine, integrating science, management, engineering, literature and law. Founded in 1956, THE University was one of the earliest medical institutions of higher learning in ethnic minority areas in China. At that time, it was subordinate to the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China. In 1958, it was put under the administration of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Formerly known as Inner Mongolia Medical College, it has been renamed Inner Mongolia Medical University successively, and has become a university co-built by the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, The National Health and Family Planning Commission and the Ministry of Education. It has been approved to become a doctoral degree-awarding institution. After more than 60 years of construction and development, Inner Mongolia Medical University has trained more than 100,000 talents at all levels for the state and made important contributions to the economic development, social progress, scientific and technological innovation, cultural inheritance, ethnic unity and border stability of the Autonomous Region. It has become a local medical college with distinctive characteristics. The university now has three teaching parks, namely Jinshan Campus, Xinhua Campus and Xilin Campus, covering a total area of 1231,808 square meters and a total construction area of 525,726 square meters. Among them, the teaching administrative room area of 244,219 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 580.4933 million yuan, and all kinds of books and documents are 2.0563 million copies (kinds). The university began to enroll undergraduate students in 1956 and graduate students in 1978. In 1981, it obtained the qualification of master's degree authorization. In 1999, it obtained the qualification of applying for master's degree of the same educational level. Since 2005, it has cooperated with Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University and Tianjin University of Chinese Medicine to cultivate doctoral students in 7 disciplines including Mongolian medicine, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, TCM internal medicine, imaging medicine and nuclear medicine, surgery, cell biology and Traditional Chinese medicine. In 2018, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of The State Council to become a doctor's degree-granting institution, and obtained the doctor's degree authorization point of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Mongolian Medicine). It has established a comprehensive ethnic medicine higher education system that can simultaneously train undergraduates, master's students and doctoral students, forming a trinity of modern medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine and Mongolian medicine higher education. The university now offers a doctor's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Mongolian Medicine). 6 master level disciplines: Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Pharmacy, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Nursing; Master of Clinical Medicine, Master of Stomatology, Master of Public Health, Master of Nursing, Master of Pharmacy, Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine 6 professional master degree categories. Among the 33 undergraduate programs, Mongolian Medicine, Clinical Medicine and Nursing have been approved as national First-class undergraduate programs. Mongolian Medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine and Mongolian Medicine have been rated as featured programs of colleges and universities by the Ministry of Education. Mongolian Medicine has been approved by the Ministry of Education as "the first Batch of Comprehensive Undergraduate Program Reform Pilot programs in Local Universities". TCM, Traditional Chinese medicine, Public service Management, Mongolian Medicine, stomatology, anesthesiology, pharmacy and forensic Medicine have been approved as the first-class undergraduate programs of the Autonomous Region. There are 4 state-level first-class courses, 14 autonomous region-level open online courses and 19 autonomous region-level first-class courses. The university has 16,187 full-time students.
