Zhejiang Gongshang University(ZJSU), founded in 1911, is the Earliest Business School in Modern China. It is located in a picturesque city--Hangzhou which is the capital city of Zhejiang Province. It ranks China’s Top 8 and Zhejiang’s Top 1 University for Finance and Economics. It is Grade A Institution in the Evaluation by Ministry of Education of China. ZJSU is also a Key Comprehensive University co-constructed by Ministry of Education of China, Ministry of Commerce of China and Zhejiang Provincial Government. The University was confirmed to be the Internationalized Characteristic University and Key Construction University by Zhejiang Province. ZJSU is a comprehensive university covering nine academic areas including economics, management, law, literature, history, philosophy, engineering, science and arts. ZJSU offers more than 60 full-time Chinese-taught degree programs to international students including undergraduate, graduate, PhD and post-doctoral programs. The university also provides non-degree programs such as Chinese Language and Culture Program, China and Chinese Business. Founded in 1980, it was initially known as Hangzhou Industrial School Attached to Zhejiang University. Combining the successful school-running experience of German Universities of Applied Sciences(FH) with Chinese Characteristics, ZUST explores to cultivate high quality internationalized talents with innovative spirits and applied skills. Zhejiang University of Science and Technology has two campuses. Xiaoheshan Campus is situated in the historical and cultural city—Hangzhou, with planned land area of 112.67 hectares and built-up area of 450,000 square meters. Anji campus, situated in Anji county which won the United Nation Habitat Scroll of Honor Award, has a land area of 33.33 hectares and built-up area of 165,000 square meters. At present the university has 11 schools, 3 teaching centers, 3 First-class disciplines with master’s degree conferring right, 2 master’s degree-conferring programs and altogether 50 undergraduate majors with more than 15,600 full-time regular undergraduates and postgraduates and over 1000 foreign students. The total value of teaching and scientific equipment is 242 million yuan; the total volume of books in library (including electronic books) is 1.207 million, and that of e-books is 2.543 million; and it also has 626 kinds of paper journals and 11,000 kinds of e-journals. It has 3 state-level key majors, 4 provincial-level dominant majors in the “12th Five-Year Plan”, 10 provincial level newly emerging (international) majors, 9 provincial-level key majors, 7 national level engineering practice centers, 1 national level off-school practice base for undergraduates, 5 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 1 provincial talents training mode experiment and innovation site; 1 state-level second prize for Teaching Achievements in Higher Education has been won. In the past five years ZUST students won over 3300 prizes in various international and domestic disciplinary competitions, including over 50 international awards and more than 880 state-level awards. The initial employment rate of its graduates is maintained at more than 95%, one of the highest in the provincial colleges and universities, gaining itself the honor of “Model University with High Graduate Employment Rate” from the Ministry of Education. So far the university has 8 provincial-level key disciplines in the “12th Five-Year Plan”, 3 provincial-level key technological innovation teams and 1 provincial university innovation team. In recent five years the university has won over 14 provincial and state-level awards including a second prize of state technological invention award (as the second unit), a second prize of the outstanding achievement award of scientific research from the Ministry of Education for two consecutive years; it has been granted RMB 220 million Yuan of research funding; over 3800 articles have been published, among which more than 800 papers are either indexed by SCI, EI, and ISTP or are authority level research papers in humanities and social sciences; and more than 50 Research and Development institutions have been established cooperatively with enterprises. The university has more than 1200 staff members, 850 full-time teachers, among whom more than 100 are professors, those with master’s or doctor’s degrees account for 80%, and those with experiences of enterprise practice account for over 30%. 4 teachers were approved to receive the State Council special subsidy; 1 was chosen as national level Excellent Teacher; 1 won the honor of Model of Professional Ethics in national education system; 1 was selected into “New Century Excellent Talents Supporting Program” from the Ministry of Education, 1 enrolled for “1000 provincial talents plan”, 1 special professor of “Qianjiang Scholars”, 1 won the honor of “young and middle-aged provincial-level experts with outstanding contribution”; 66 as the provincial-level candidates for “151 Talents Program”, 27 as provincial young and middle-aged discipline leaders; 5 as provincial level Outstanding Teachers; 3 as provincial level Excellent University Teachers, 7 as provincial level Distinguished University Teachers; and 3 provincial level teaching teams were established. Zhejiang Sci-Tech University (ZSTU) is located in Hangzhou, a historical and cultural city, boasts a long history of schooling and covers a campus area of over 2100mu. Silkworm School, precursor of ZSTU, was founded in 1897 by Lin Qi, governor of Hangzhou prefecture then, with the noble ambition to save the nation by engaging in industry and education, and was one of the earliest new-learning educational institutions ever founded in China. In 1908, Silkworm School was imperialistically promoted by the royal court of the Qing Dynasty to be Advanced Academy of Sericulture and Mulberry owing to its outstanding schooling achievements. The period of turmoil and chaos, from the Revolution of 1911 until the founding of the People’s Republic of China, witnessed the changes of the names and locations of the institution for several times. However, no matter what hardships it underwent, it never gave up its commitment to schooling. After the founding of the PRC in 1949, the academic institution kept forging ahead and composed grand new chapters of its history. In 1959, it began its enrollment of undergraduate candidates. In 1964, the State Council named it Zhejiang Silk Engineering College. In 1979, it started to offer postgraduate programs and was authorized to confer master’s degrees in 1983. With the approval of MOE, it was named Zhejiang Engineering College in 1999 and Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in 2004. In 2006, ZSTU began to have the authority to confer doctoral degrees. In 2010, with the approval of MOE, ZSTU began to be qualified to recommend excellent fresh undergraduates to take master’s degree programs free of examination. In 2017, ZSTU was listed among the Zhejiang Provincial Key Construction Higher Educational Institutions. At the turn of the 21st century, multiple institutions were successively combined with Hangzhou Teachers College. 2007 marked the birth of the new Hangzhou Teachers College, officially today’s Hangzhou Normal University. The journey was full of challenges, but we persevered. Along the way, we at Hangzhou Normal University, one generation after another, have united around our motto “Diligence, Conscientiousness, Honesty and Generosity, Erudition, Elegance, Refinement and Excellence” to preach and practice teaching and learning as we moved with the times in an open and inclusive way while staying true to our shared vision. Since its 100th anniversary in 2008, HZNU has been pursuing a brand-new strategy of making itself a first-class university. A defining moment came when HZNU, which is now among China’s top 100, was put on Zhejiang’s agenda for key universities in 2017. With 24 schools, and 1 affiliated hospital, Hangzhou Normal University has Cangqian, Xiasha and Yuhuangshan campuses, covering a total area of about 240 hectares, with a total construction area of 2.4 million square meters. It has nearly 2400 staff members and 1700 full-time teachers, and more than 30,000 full-time students, including more than 24,000 undergraduates, over 6,000 graduate students, and about 360 international degree students. HZNU glitters with a galaxy of high-level scholars and scientists who are widely acknowledged provincially and nationally. Represented by 1 academician from Chinese Academy of Sciences, we have more than a hundred top talents on provincial and national levels, including Chang Jiang Scholars, Distinguished Young Scholars and National Outstanding Teachers. With its hard work, HZNU has been gaining strength and showing great advancement. With 13 of its disciplines in the top 1% of international ESI disciplines, the University is now among China’s top 100 by ESI ranking and has secured a leading position among its provincial peers when it comes to the overall strength of disciplines. HZNU keeps a close eye on the Belt and Road Initiative and follows closely what is going on globally. The University, which is among the first to be accredited by China Education Association for International Exchange for international student education, co-runs a center for Chinese language education and cooperation in partnership with Middle Tennessee State University in the United States, a Joint Institute with Kharkiv National University in Ukraine and a Joint Program at Master Level with the University of Canberra in Australia. Friendly ties have been established with over 70 renowned universities around the world, confirming its belief that openness and inclusiveness should be the tone for international exchanges.
