As China's top-notch university for linguistics, modern languages, intercultural studies, and global and area studies, SISU is a member of the United Nations MoU network, and the Double First Class and Project 211 Universities identified by China's Ministry of Education. OUR HISTORY Our history began in December 1949 with the establishment of the Shanghai Russian School affiliated to East China People’s Revolution University, as one of the earliest institutions where China’s higher education in foreign languages took shape. Its first president, Jiang Chunfang, is a renowned translator of Russian and publisher who pioneered the publication of The Encyclopedia of China. Throughout its history, SISU has attracted and retained China's distinguished linguists, translators and philosophers with commitment to teaching and academic pursuits, including Professors Roland Fang Chong, Xu Zhongnian, Yan Disheng, Wang Dechun, Zhang Zhenbang, Li Guanyi, Yu Kuangfu and Xie Tianzhen, who have become part of the University’s increased wealth of intellectual resources. LEADING ACADEMICS A globalized and top-notch university in China, SISU has successfully developed a diverse and distinctive mix of disciplines crossing humanities, social sciences and natural sciences and in the fields of arts, education, economics, management, law and engineering with language and literature as its pillar. Having established and maintained a high academic stature among universities of its kind, SISU has been funded to offer 29 national key degree programs, and 6 Shanghai leading disciplines, adding to our existing 3 national key disciplines and a national undergraduate education platform for European languages. In recent years, SISU’s distinctive strength has been further enhanced with the number of language-related degree programs increasing and the number of doctoral and master’s degree programs significantly growing, resulting in a more balanced educational structure. Currently, we offer courses in 54 languages, including 39 modern languages (English, Russian, French, German, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Korean, Persian, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Swedish, Dutch, Hebrew, Ukrainian, Turkish, Hindi, Hungarian, Uzbek, Kazakh, Polish, Czech, Urdu, Malay, Swahili, Javanese, Pashto, Tajik, Romanian, Belarusian, Sundanese, Cambodian, Bengali and Chinese). We also teach 15 classical and constructed languages, Latin, Ancient Greek, Old English, Sanskrit, Syriac Aramaic, Pahlavi, Classical Nahuatl, Yucatec Maya, Akkadian, Sumerian, Classical Hebrew, Ottoman Turkish, Gandhari, Esperanto and sign language. The Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation (GIIT) of SISU is awarded the highest ranking by AIIC, the International Association of Conference Interpreters, as the only Asian university among the top professional conference interpreting schools in the world and an active member of Conférence Internationale Permanente d'Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interprètes (CIUTI). RESEARCH EXCELLENCE With a mission to “introduce the rest of the world to China” and “present China globally”, SISU has won an unparalleled reputation in linguistics, literary studies, translation studies, intercultural studies and international journalism in Chinese academia, playing an active role in China's diplomatic decision-making. Our research excellence has been further recognized for our progress in political science, by developing a focused research field in global and area studies. Drawing on our strengths in multi-language programs and multi-disciplinary resources, while responding to national and regional strategies, we operate more than 100 research institutes and centers serving as academic think tanks to provide advisory services on language policies, diplomatic strategies and global communication. These academic entities have contributed landmark research and are also dedicated to promoting the development of social sciences in China. Many of our faculty members are professional researchers as well as tutors and lecturers, carrying out scholarly investigation into their specialist subjects and making innovative and meaningful discoveries that feed into teaching and contribute to global knowledge. SISU currently edits and publishes 21 highly regarded and rigorously peer-reviewed academic journals. Among them, the Journal of Foreign Languages, funded by China’s National Social Science Foundation, is the only one on linguistic studies among China’s “Top 30 University Journals in Social Sciences”. GLOBAL PRESENCE We have made it a strategic priority in our development planning to go global and actively encourage a global vision by providing unique and valuable experience for students and researchers from all over the world to interact across national, cultural and linguistic borders. We have now established partnerships with more than 440 universities and institutions from 62 countries and regions, and have maintained close connection with international organizations, including the United Nations and the European Union. SISU is an academic partner of the United Nations Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM), the European Commission's Directorate-Generals for Interpretation and Translation (DG SCIC and DGT) and the UK China Humanities Alliance (UKCHA). We have also compiled and published a series of Mandarin Chinese textbooks to be used by non-Chinese speakers as a means of further promoting cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world. Over the past five years, around 4,000 international students have been enrolled each year in our Chinese language programs or other degree schemes and 10 Confucius Institutes have been established in Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America. CAMPUS FACILITIES SISU has two campuses, Hongkou Campus and Songjiang Campus, covering a total area of 74.7 hectares. The two campuses are closely interrelated but distinct with their own features. The SISU Library, one of the three core members of CALIS China Library Consortium of Foreign Studies Universities, has a total collection of 1.30 million cataloged volumes (over half in foreign languages) and 1.74 million electronic documents. SISU's pioneering Museum of World Languages is one of the few language museums in the world and the first in China featuring global linguistic diversity. SISU houses a range of state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities including world-class simultaneous interpretation systems, satellite signal-receiving devices and linguistic laboratories. A powerful digital audio-visual database containing multimedia resources in foreign studies has been set up to serve the needs of teaching and research. SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT Taking advantage of their intercultural expertise and professional knowledge, SISU faculty and students actively volunteer their services at international conferences, sports games and other multilingual events. We are also committed to advancing China’s foreign language education. Since its inception, Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press (SFLEP), affiliated with SISU, has published more than 1 billion books in more than 40 languages, of which over 70% were reprinted. SFLEP ranked top in the category of language and literature in the Chinese Book Citation Index, indicating our strong influence in Chinese academia. CORE VALUES SISU has launched the “Multilingual+” Initiative, a pioneering educational reform strategy towards global studies to meet with the future “multilingual+” era. “Multilingual” means that our students should at least master two second languages, and owns brilliant intercultural communication abilities. “+” (Plus) refers to interdisciplinary education that “interconnects” different fields of disciplines and subjects with area studies as its core. Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance is a full-time general higher education institution offering distinctive accounting and finance programs. It was formed in June 2016 by amalgamating Shanghai Lixin University of Commerce and Shanghai Finance University. The name "Lixin" comes from a saying from the Analects of Confucius, "Without credibility, you won’t have a place in the world." The history of the University can be traced back to 1928, when Pan Xulun, a famous educator and accountant honored as the “Father of Modern Accounting in China” founded Lixin Accounting School. In 2011, it was qualified for conferring the professional master's degree in auditing. Running for over 90 years, it has been hailed as one of the birthplaces of modern accounting education in China and the cradle of future financiers. In December 2018, SLU was named a pilot university for the development of high-quality application-oriented universities in Shanghai. The University has three campuses in Pudong, Songjiang and Xuhui respectively, covering an area of more than 1,200 mu (about 800,000 m2). In December 2019, SLU’s Pudong new campus came into construction. There are nearly 20,000 full-time students in the University. The students have good prospects of employment, with the employment rate of graduate students being 100%, and that of undergraduates over 98%, and thus was selected as a “National Model University for Graduate Employability” by the Ministry of Education. In September 2019, we witnessed the inauguration of Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance Affiliated School. The University remains committed to the fundamental task of educating integrity in students and helping them become high-quality application-oriented talents with “integrity, practical ability, creativity and an international vision”. It has become a standing executive member of China Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Association (CIUR), a standing executive member of China University-Enterprise Collaboration Innovation Alliance and one of the first batch of "integrated pilot universities" in Shanghai curriculum ideological and political education reform. In November 2018, the University was approved in the examination and evaluation of undergraduate teaching by the Ministry of Education. The University views human resources as the foremost resources and constantly improves its faculty. There are more than 1,600 faculty members, including more than 1,000 full-time teaching staff. More than 80 of the full-time teaching staff obtain senior titles and more than 340 deputy senior titles. More than 600 teaching staff have a doctorate. It has a group of experts and scholars who have been selected into national and provincial-level talent programs and are academically influential in their professional fields. The University has been improving itself through disciplinary development. With economics and management as the main subjects, applied economics, business administration and statistics as focuses, and finance and accounting at core, it promotes interdisciplinary integration and collaboration and coordinates the development of multiple subjects in the disciplines of economics, management, science, law and arts. Its business administration is listed as a Class I Plateau Discipline in Shanghai Universities, and applied economics as a Class II Plateau Discipline in Shanghai universities. Its open economy and trade is a key discipline in Shanghai. The Journal of Accounting and Economics published and publicly distributed by the University was qualified as a CSSCI source journal. The University offers distinctive programs for different majors and there are 15 schools. In its 39 undergraduate programs, two are state-level characteristic disciplines, namely Accounting and Finance. It has a national accounting professional training model innovation experimental area, four national first-class undergraduate programs, Accounting, Auditing, Finance and International Economics and trade, two Shanghai municipal first-class undergraduate programs, namely Taxation and Applied Statistics, and three pilot undergraduate programs for general program reform in Shanghai, namely finance, taxation and cameralistics.13 undergraduate programs including marketing, international economics and trade are municipal pilot application-oriented undergraduate programs in Shanghai. In June 2018, the University was among the first to be selected for the “First-Class Undergraduate Education Initiative of Shanghai Colleges and Universities”. In April 2019, it was among the first to be selected for the “First-class Graduate Education Initiative of Shanghai Colleges and Universities”.

Shanghai Art & Design Academy is the only independent art and design higher vocational college in Shanghai. It is also the only higher vocational college in Shanghai to undertake the pilot reform of the national education system and the only Shanghai to be selected into the national "double high" construction plan. The higher vocational colleges of Shanghai were jointly established in 2003 by Shanghai Arts and Crafts School (built in 1960) and Shanghai Second Light Industry Workers' University (built in 1979). With arts and crafts as its foundation and advantages, the college has cultivated more than 30,000 industry talents and a large number of well-known design masters, craft masters, artists and entrepreneurs at home and abroad for more than 60 years. The college is the only art and design college among the 100 national exemplary higher vocational colleges; the national advanced unit of vocational education; the research base for the inheritance of China's intangible cultural heritage determined by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; the employment of national graduates Top 50 universities with typical experience; Top 50 universities with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship in China; Top 50 national vocational colleges with international influence and top 50 education effectiveness; ranked in the comprehensive competitiveness ranking of national vocational colleges for five consecutive years. History With a history traced back to 1984, the university developed from three institutions: the Shanghai Administrative Institute of Politics and Law, the Shanghai Judicial College, and the Shanghai University Law school. The university initiated its undergraduate programs in 1993, and master’s degree programs in 1998. In September 2004, the Shanghai Municipal Government approved the establishment of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law and gave it the status of an independent university. In November 2014, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission became the university’s supervising authority, and the university has since been operated by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice. SHUPL now has more than 11000 students and 700 staff. According to the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities, SHUPL ranks 4th among the universities of political science and law in China. Academic Disciplines SHUPL is composed of the following academic departments: School of Laws, School of Economic Law(Silk Road Lawyering Institute), School of International Law, School of Criminal Justice, School of Policing Studies, School of Artificial Intelligence and Law, School of Economics, and Management, School of Government, School of Languages and Cultures, Shanghai Documentary Academy, School of Marxism, School of Higher Vocational Education, School of International Cooperation and Exchange as well as teaching units for general education modules such as Information Technology and Physical Education. We offer over 40 bachelor’s degree programs in legal studies, penology, intellectual property, economics, business administration, financial management, international economy and trade, auditing, economy and finance, taxation, sociology, social work, labor and social security, applied psychology, political science and administration, international politics, administrative management, Chinese language and literature, journalism, broadcasting and television,  broadcasting and TV directing and editing, English language, Russian language, ideological and political education, international Chinese education, etc. Since 2014, we started to enroll Chinese ethnic students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and abroad. Talents Cultivation The university regards teaching quality as its lifeline and has been improving the quality of each of our graduates at every stage through different channels. In recent years, we have made numerous achievements in promoting students’ innovation and entrepreneurship, Our students won a lot of prizes at innovation and entrepreneurship of college students for their extracurricular academic works, in addition to the highest award at the 7thNational University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Annual Summit in 2014, the top-grade prize at the 7thShanghai “Zhixing Cup”, a youth entrepreneurship competition, and the first place at Shanghai Debating Championship on Rule of Law for three years in a row. Documentaries made by our students have won prizes both at home and abroad multiple times. SHUPL men’s and women’s cricket teams won straight 1stplace at National Cricket Tournament(Promotion Group). In September and October 2017, SHUPL Model UN Society received two separate congratulatory letters from the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretary-General Rashid Alimov that highly praised the society’s contribution. The employment rate of our graduates has kept above 97% for many years, ranking high among all universities in Shanghai. In 2013, SHUPL was awarded the title of “Shanghai Employment Promotion Unit”. Faculty and Staff The university adheres to the strategy of attracting scholars and experts for its long-term development. We make good arrangements in terms of organization and academic ranks for our outstanding teaching staff who have the professional expertise, close connections with industries in China and overseas, extensive teaching experience, global vision. With a total of 800 faculty members, 600 professional teachers among whom over 90% have master’s degrees and 50% have Ph.D. degrees. We owe a young teaching crew and 69.7% of our professional teachers are under 45. Among our 100 Ph.D. supervisors and master’s degree supervisors, many are experts receiving special allowances granted by the State Council, members of the Steering Committee for University Education in Political Science and Law under the Ministry of Education, Shanghai Young- and Middle-aged Legal Experts, Ten Outstanding Young People in Shanghai of the Year, Shanghai Prominent Teachers, Huangpu River Talents and “Shuguang” Scholars. The university has also engaged about 200 experts and scholars from academia and industries from both home and abroad as guest professors or part-time professors. National-level Programs The university brings the three functions of CNISCO, namely training, think tank, and forums, into full play. Entrusted by central government departments including the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Commerce, the institute has completed a number of training missions the Supreme People’s Court Belt and Road” Judicial Research Base,Supreme People's Pastorate SCO Procurator Training Base,Ministry of Justice Preparatory office of China-SCO legal service committee,Ministry of Justice Cooperation base of China-SCO legal service committee,Ministry of Justice Mediation Theory Research and Talent Training Base, the regional and country research center authorized and registered by the Ministry of Education, a humanities and social sciences research base for universities in Shanghai, Shanghai Education Legislation Counseling and Service Research Base, and Shanghai Normative Document Filing Review Research Center. SHUPL is a member of the “Belt and Road Think Tank Cooperation Alliance”.SCO Research Institute and the “Belt and Road” Safety Research Institute are CTTI (China Think Tank Index) source think tank. Based on CNISCO, SHUPL is accelerating the process of internationalization. International Exchanges The university adheres to the strategy of engaging education with international exchanges. The education going-out strategy has made rapid progress. In 2018, the Chinese Language Training and Research Center, established in cooperation with the Indian Jindel Global University, was successfully approved. We have built partnerships around the world with over 100 universities and institutions including the University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics and Political Science, the Hague Conference on Private International Law, and the International Chamber of Commerce. We have established a training center for pre-sessional English language courses and are currently offering“3+1”, “2+2”, “2+1” pathway/track programs for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies. Overseas students at SHUPL can apply for Chinese Government Scholarships and “Silk Road” government Scholarships. SHUPL is a Sino-US Humanities Program Cultivation University and a member of the China Campus Network. The only preparatory education center for liberal arts and business students in the Yangtze River Delta Area was authorized to be set up here. The university began to accept overseas students in 2013, with more than 500 international students from more than 70 countries now. We passed the Quality Assurance of Studying in China in 2020 with distinction. Campus and Facilities The university is dedicated to the maintenance of ecosystem on campus. Located in the picturesque national-level scenic area of Sheshan Hill, the university covers an area of 1000 mu(67 hectares) and is crowned the “garden university at the northern foot of Sheshan Mountain”. We have more than 11,000 full-time postgraduates, undergraduates, vocational college students, and overseas students. The campus is well equipped with teaching and research facilities: 35laboratories and workshops, and nearly 200 off-campus placement bases. Our placement base for legal practice is a national-level off-campus placement base for university students. Founded in Shanghai in October 1951, East China Normal University (ECNU) is one of the most prestigious universities in China sponsored by the national top university construction programs “Project 211” and “Project 985”. In 2017, ECNU was chosen as one of the 36 Class A universities on the list of Double First Class University Plan released by the central government of China. With two beautiful campuses located in Minhang and Putuo districts of Shanghai, and covering a total area of more than 207 hectares, ECNU has long been known as a Garden University. Since China opened up to the outside world in 1978, ECNU has developed rapidly into a comprehensive research university. At present, the University has 4 faculties, 30 full-time schools, 4 colleges, 8 advanced research institutes, one college of further education, and one national training center for secondary principals. Its 58 departments offer a total of 84 undergraduate programs in humanities, education, science, engineering, economics, management, philosophy, psychology, law, history and art. In addition, the University also offers 30 doctoral programs, 36 master's programs, one professional doctoral program, 21 professional master's programs, and 26 post-doctoral mobile research stations. As of May 2022, the university has 31 primary disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 35 primary disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 3 secondary disciplines authorized for master's degrees, 22 professional master's degrees and doctoral degrees in education, 26 postdoctoral research stations, and 85 undergraduate majors. There are 3 national "double first-class" disciplines, 2 national key disciplines, 5 national secondary key disciplines, 5 national key cultivation disciplines, 12 A-class disciplines in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, 6 Shanghai peak disciplines (2 in Class I, 2 in Class II and 2 in Class IV), 12 Shanghai key disciplines and 17 first-class disciplines in Shanghai (4 in Category A and 13 in Category B). The University has 4,418 teaching staff, of which 2,412 are full-time teachers. There are 2,089 professors and other teachers with senior titles, including 19 academicians (including double-appointed academicians) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 443 candidates selected for various national and Shanghai talent programmes. There are 15,914 full-time undergraduate students, 3,952 doctoral students and 17,719 master's students, and 1,551 international students (academic students). There are now 10 bases of the Basic Discipline Top Students Training Program 2.0, 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centres, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centre and 9 Shanghai experimental teaching demonstration centres. The university hosts, hosts and co-hosts 23 Chinese journals and 7 English journals, and the libraries on both campuses have a total physical collection of over 4,938,600 volumes and 164 electronic literature databases (466 sub-databases). The university actively serves and integrates with national strategies. The Education Group has taken "excellence" as its leader in building model schools and districts for basic education, and now has 58 primary and secondary schools and kindergartens (officially enrolled and operating) affiliated to it. The school also insists on the separation of management and administration, explores the cultivation of high-quality non-academic education programmes, focuses on promoting connotative development, and enhances social and economic effectiveness in an integrated manner.
