Ningbo Polytechnic University is a full-time college of higher vocational education approved by the Ministry of Education in 1999. In 2005, it was rated as the national Advanced Vocational Education unit. Ningbo University (NBU) is a key university of Zhejiang, China and one of the universities in the country's “Shuang Yi Liu” (“Double First-Class”) Initiative, enjoying the joint support from the provincial government of Zhejiang, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Ningbo Municipality, as well as from the State Oceanic Administration and Ningbo Municipality. NBU was set up in 1986 with the donations from Sir Yue-Kong Pao, the shipping magnet in Hong Kong. Mr. Deng Xiaoping inscribed the name of Ningbo University in Chinese characters “Ning Bo Da Xue” to express his best wishes for the new-born university. In the early years, NBU owed a lot to five prestigious universities in China for their great support, namely, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China, Peking University, and the former Hangzhou University. In 1992, it was listed among the first batch of colleges and universities in China to admit students. In 1995, it passed the evaluation of the undergraduate education organized by the former State Education Commission (present MOE). In 1996, the former Ningbo University, Ningbo Teachers College and Zhejiang Fisheries College Ningbo Branch merged into one to become a new Ningbo University. In 2000, NBU was listed as the key university by Zhejiang Provincial Government in 2000. In 2011, the State Oceanic Administration and Ningbo Municipality agreed to jointly develop NBU. In 2012, it became a university co-funded by Zhejiang Provincial Government, the MOE and Ningbo Municipality. In 2015, it was selected as one of the first batch of key universities in Zhejiang Province. In 2017, it was approved as a “Shuang Yi Liu” university of the country. NBU has received great support from a great many personages at home and abroad, especially Ningbo-native merchants overseas. Today's NBU has made way to the Top 100 in China in comprehensive strength. The research level in social sciences ranks among the top 10% of the national colleges and universities. It has obtained a Top 10 outstanding cases of industry-university cooperation. NBU has established a cooperative education institution with Angers University of France. It has also signed cooperation protocols with about 30 universities in Taiwan, such as Chung Yuan Christian University, Taiwan Ocean University, Yunlin University of Science and Technology, and Taiwan’s Soochow University. In 1993, NBU took the lead in Chinese Mainland in initiating student exchange programs with universities in Taiwan. To date, it has exchanged student visits with Taiwan universities for 24 times. Its exchange program with the Hong Kong Chinese University was listed as the “10,000 Talents Plan” project of MOE. NBU has its main campus in the North Higher Education Park of Ningbo, and several other campuses like Meishan Campus and Botanical Garden Campus. The campus covers an area of 202 hectares, with floor space of 974,600 square meters. The existing fixed assets total 2.22 billion yuan (or 322 million US dollars), and the instruments and equipment total 980 million yuan in worth. There is a Ningbo Branch of Zhejiang Higher Education Digital Resource Center. It has a library of total area of 51,000 square meters, with a collection of 2.51 million paper books and 2.3 million e-books. The university has got two affiliated hospitals (one under construction), 10 non-direct affiliated hospitals and 9 teaching hospitals.

Ningbo University of Technology (NBUT) was founded in 1983 by Ningbo Municipal Government，it covers an area of 1,055,672 square meters and comprises Cuibai Campus, Fenghua Campus and Hangzhou Bay Campus. The University boasts 10 subordinate schools, 42 undergraduate specialties, 790 full-time teachers of whom 71 with professorship, 258 with associate professorship and 310 with doctorate degrees, and it currently has 13,470 full-time undergraduate students. NBUT aims to cultivate effective and creative senior engineers and scholars with idea of “integrating knowledge into actions” In 2010, NBUT was listed as one of the first group of universities which implement “Outstanding Engineers Cultivation Program” by the Ministry of Education. Now the pilot majors include Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Computer Science and Technology, Electronic and Information Engineering, Material Modeling and Control Engineering. Three majors including Architecture, Chemical Engineering and Techniques, Mechanical Design and Manufacture and Automation have been listed as the first CDIO trial majors. In 2014 NBUT became the Council Chairman Unit of the first "Yangtze River Delta Applied Undergraduate Universities Union", and became one of the first batch of 10 pilot demonstration Applied Universities of Zhejiang Province in 2015. NBUT boasts excellent conditions for offering education with complete and excellent infrastructure. At present, it has various equipment and instruments for teaching and research with a total value of 289.97 million RMB and nearly 1.46 million copies of books in the library. By combining introduction and cultivation, the 100-talent-amassed Project and the 100-talent-cultivated Project have been initiated by the University, in the hope of upgrading the teaching faculty in terms of ethical conduct, acute expertise and vital spirit. The University constantly improves the level of specialties construction, makes a good job of dominant specialties and characteristic specialties, fully implements “5+5 teaching quality promotion project”. There are now 6 provincial key disciplines, 5 municipal key laboratories and engineering centers. At present, there are altogether 6 municipal-level research institutes, 17 co-built ones with enterprises and public-sector institutions, 14 university-level ones, and 16 research groups. In 2016, relevant research funds totaled more than 50 million RMB, with 12 national-level projects and 29 provincial-level projects approved, 461 academic papers and 100 monographs published, and 68 patents granted. NBUT actively carries out “Dual Cooperation” project with famous universities or research institutes. It has been continually in joint cultivation of undergraduates with Tongji University, East China University of Science and Technology, joint cultivation of graduates with Jilin University, Taiyuan University of Technology, Chang’an University, etc. By the end of 2017, NBUT had boasted 67 doctoral supervisors and master’s supervisors, who had jointly instructed 52 doctorate candidates and nearly 183 postgraduates. Geared for serving the local economy, NBUT has been adjusted to the demand of local social and economic development, and has vigorously sought cooperation with the local governmental departments, enterprises and public-sector institutions, claiming to be “the talent reservoir” and “the push starter” of the social undertakings. An intense cooperation with the local government has been propelled. The University has gained a strategic cooperation with Jiangbei District, Cixi City, Transportation Committee of Ningbo Municipal Government, Hangzhou Bay New Zone, Xiangshan County Government and so on. By establishing Beilun Technology Transferring Center of NBUT, and then Ji Shigang Technology Transferring Center of NBUT, Xiangshan Research Institute of NBUT, it offers great intellectual support to help upgrade and transform local enterprises, and thus develop local economy. NBUT attaches great importance to the development of education internationalization, and has established long-term cooperation with 95 higher education institutions in 29 countries (regions). In 2011, NBUT started the joint Bachelor’s Program of Accounting with Delaware State University in the USA, and a total of 248 graduates received two degrees from both universities from 2015 to 2017. in 2017, another joint program in Information and Computing Science with West Virginia State University started enrolling students. NBUT also operates a Confucius classroom in Grenada. Zhejiang Wanli University (ZWU), situated in Ningbo, covers a total area of 95 hectares and consists of Qianhu Campus, Huilong Campus and Zhashan Base. ZWU has most beautiful human-orientated campuses,green and well-equipped, widely recognized by people in educational circles. In ZWU, there are a Business School, a Law School, a Faculty of Culture & Communication, a Faculty of Foreign Languages, a Faculty of Design and Architecture, a Faculty of Biological & Environmental Sciences, a Faculty of Electronic and Information Engineering, a Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, a Junior College, for a total of 9 faculties, as well as Continuing Education College and World College. ZWU provides 36 4-year undergraduate programs, which comprise disciplines as wide as economics, law, literature, science, engineering, agriculture and management. At present, there are more than 20,000 full-time students at ZWU, with a staff of more than 1,000. ZWU has set up a key provincial laboratory, known as the Fundamental Course Teaching Demonstration Center for Electrical & Electronic Processing. ZWU also has four key municipal laboratories: Ningbo Agricultural Product Processing Laboratory, Ningbo Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Laboratory, Ningbo Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Laboratory and Ningbo Microbiology and Environmental Engineering Laboratory. In addition, ZWU has 20 research institutes including: the Institute of Applied Linguistics, the Institute of Biological Technology, Chinese and Foreign Law Research Center, Ningbo Industrial and Economic Development Research Center and Ningbo Auditing Institute. Therefore, ZWU possesses many key provincial and municipal specialties and disciplines. The university library houses a collection of more than 1,200,000 books; about 2,500 journals both in Chinese and foreign languages; and is equipped with “the Closed Mirror Station for China Academic Journal Net”, the “Wanfang Data Service Center”, and an additional 6,000 digital periodicals available on the university network. On Huilong Campus, in order to cater to and meet the particular requirements of freshmen, the university implements independent management and places emphasis on fundamental teaching of foreign languages and computer skills. The course credits, flexible teaching, tutorial system and teaching according to their aptitude, hence student-oriented management system is realized. Over the last few years, the university has actively participated in international exchanges and co-operation with other universities, successively establishing relationships with more than 20 universities in the UK, France, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Ukraine, among others. Furthermore, ZWU has established a close partnership with the university of Nottingham. Thanks to joint efforts, a new cooperative university, the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China (UNNC), which follows the education system of the University of Nottingham, UK, has been set up. Through mutual recognition of credit, many channels of overseas study are opened up to graduates. The university provides students with opportunities to experience foreign cultures and to acquire the latest know-how, and a caring atmosphere to study foreign languages by virtue of student exchange programs, short-term visiting programs and the annual employment of more than ten foreign teachers.
