About UniversityJiangsu Second Normal University
Jiangsu Second Normal University is a provincial university with teacher education as the main body and the focus on training primary and preschool teachers. Its predecessor, Jiangsu Institute of Education, was founded in 1952. It was one of the 17 public undergraduate schools in Jiangsu Province in the early days of New China. In 1959, the University was the first provincial education institute in China to offer undergraduate education. The school was suspended during the "Cultural Revolution" and reopened in 1978. In 2013, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the university was changed into a regular undergraduate school and renamed Jiangsu No. 2 Normal College. Adhering to the mission of serving the economic and social development and educational reform and innovation of Jiangsu Province, the University accurately grasps the general trend, scientifically judges the situation and follows the development trend, gradually forming the school-running characteristics of "pre-service and post-service integration, education and scientific research guidance, and distinct practical orientation". The university is a university undertaking the reform project of the National Excellent Teacher Training Program, a national training base for key teachers and principals of primary and secondary schools, a training base for principal pilots of primary and secondary schools of the Ministry of Education, and the only experimental base for teacher education reform in Jiangsu Province. Jiangsu Provincial Teacher Training Center, Education Administrative Cadre Training Center, Teacher Qualification Certification and Guidance Center are all affiliated institutions of the university. An interdependent and fully functional teacher education management service system is helping schools play an increasingly important role in the reform and innovation process of teacher education in Jiangsu Province. The layout of disciplines and specialties has been continuously optimized. It has 14 secondary colleges and 35 undergraduate programs covering 9 major disciplines. Priority is given to the development of teachers majors. 17 teachers majors cover all disciplines of basic education, 13 of which undertake the targeted training of rural teachers in Jiangsu Province. Non-teacher majors were developed appropriately, and the 18 non-teacher majors were closely aligned with the needs of industrial enterprises, steadily improving their ability to serve regional economic and social development. Normal students accounted for 68.7 %, ranking the top of similar institutions in the province. Solid progress was made in improving the connotation of teaching. It has 5 national first-class undergraduate major construction points, 16 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points, 1 brand major, 3 key majors and 6 characteristic majors. There are 5 national first-class undergraduate courses, 14 provincial first-class undergraduate courses and 3 practical teaching centers. It has 3 provincial key disciplines, 3 provincial teaching teams, 2 university key research bases for philosophy and social sciences and 2 excellent innovation teams, and the only provincial education think tank. Since 2013, there have been 9 online open courses of Jiangsu Province, 19 key teaching materials of Jiangsu Province, 2 first prizes and 2 second prizes of National Teaching Achievement Awards, 5 special prizes, 1 first prize and 2 second prizes of Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards. Remarkable progress has been made in the construction of teaching staff. Persisting in introducing and training at the same time, expanding the scale of teaching staff, a team of teachers with excellent overall quality, constantly optimized structure and sound development trend has taken shape. There are 588 full-time teachers with a ratio of 43.37% to 43.69% for higher vocational education and 42.69% for doctors. Among them, there are more than 80 national school superintendents, provincial school superintendents, experts enjoying government special allowances, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, provincial famous teachers in teaching, provincial "333 Project" training objects, "Six Talent Peak" high-level talents, provincial "Mass Innovation and Innovation Doctor", Provincial May 1 Innovation expert, provincial outstanding youth in social Sciences, Zijin cultural talents and special grade teachers in primary and middle schools. The pattern of open schools is steadily expanding. The establishment of a "tripartite collaborative" talent training community has been completed. It has established cooperative relations with more than 40 universities and research institutes in more than 10 countries (regions), and has cooperated with overseas high-level universities to establish academician workstation, Russian cultural Center, Spanish Cultural Center and cross-Straits opera and sinology inheritance exchange base. It has been approved as one country research center of the Ministry of Education. Agreements have been signed with primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, industries, enterprises and research institutes inside and outside the province to build 331 off-campus practice, practice and training bases. Conditions for running schools have been significantly improved. The existing Shiqiu, Caochangmen two campuses, covers an area of 718,700 square meters, the total building area of 385,900 square meters. The teaching and administrative rooms cover 191,500 square meters and student dormitories cover 120,900 square meters. The total value of teaching and research equipment is 99,732,300 yuan, 340 laboratories and training rooms, 1.35 million paper books and 4.7 million electronic books are available. The quality of personnel training has been effectively improved. We will deepen the reform of personnel training mode, strengthen the training of outstanding teachers at all levels, and actively carry out targeted training of rural teachers. In the past three years, the students have won 895 prizes in various disciplines and sports competitions above the provincial and ministerial level, including 17 first prizes, 30 second prizes and 57 third prizes in the Basic Skills Competition of Normal University students in Jiangsu Province. In recent years, the year-end employment rate of graduates has been stable at over 90%. Over the past 70 years, the school has been adhering to the school motto of "upholding morality, professionalism, seeking truth and innovation" and the teacher spirit of "learning high as a teacher, being a model", holding high the banner of teachers, maintaining strong concentration, never forgetting the original aspiration of teachers, bearing in mind the mission of educating talents, and providing more than 200,000 qualified talents for the education front of Jiangsu Province.
