Wuhan Polytechnic University, located in Wuhan City of Hubei Province known as a “thoroughfare to 9 provinces”, was founded in 1951. This earliest school that was to cultivate professional personnel for the grain sector was built into an undergraduate institution approved by the State Council in 1980. It had been successively affiliated with the former State Ministry of Food, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Domestic Trade. In 1998, the pattern of co-construction by the central and local governments was practised and now the University is managed mainly by Hubei Province. In the past 60 years’ practice, the University operates on the principle of “Basing itself on education, taking quality as the means of development, strengthening itself with talents, and highlighting its unique features.” Now the University has been developed into an influential multiversity at home, with the authority to grant master’s degrees. Engineering and Business are its main body. Technology, Management and Science constitute its main disciplines. Besides, Agro-product Processing and Transformation and other related disciplines in the field of commerce and trade circulation have distinct characteristics. Engineering, Management, Science, Humanities, Economics, Agriculture, Art and Law support one another and develop in coordination. Thanks to its outstanding achievements, the University passed the national assessment of undergraduate teaching by the Ministry of Education in December 2006. The University now covers an area of over 900,000 square meters, with the building area of over 500,000 square meters. The library of the University, a provincial research-level unit of documentary collection, holds over 1.17 million volumes of paper literature, including 26 Chinese and foreign language electronic databases and 6 featured databases created by itself. The total value of the University’s teaching equipment is 130 million yuan. 6 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centres have been built in the University and 120 practice bases built outside the University. The University is divided into 13 shcools, 2 departments, and 1 Continued Education College, with 54 undergraduate specialties, including 4 state-level featured specialties and 7 provincial-level brand specialties. 8 first-class and 43 second-class disciplines are authorized to grant master’s degree, 4 fields authorized to grant Specialized Master’s degree of Engineering, 5 fields authorized to grant Specialized Master’s degree of Agrotechnical Extension, 3 disciplines authorized to build Doctor’s degree programs. Currently the number of full-time undergraduate and graduate students is over 13,400. There are 9 key disciplines, 1 innovative discipline with remarkable achievements, 1 superior discipline, and 3 featured disciplines in Hubei Province. There is also 1 key lab and 1 engineering research center respectively in the Ministry of Education, 2 key labs in Hubei Province, 2 provincial research bases for Humanities and Social Sciences, and 13 engineering technology research centers of the provincial (ministerial) level granted by National Ministry of Agriculture, National Ministry of Food and so on. The teachers of the University are faithful to their educational tasks, fond of their students, and devoted to their studies. The full-time teaching staff is over 800, more than half of them with senior academic titles, 80% of them with doctor’s or master’s degrees. There are 29 state-level and provincial (ministerial)-level experts, 1 candidate for the National New Century BaiQianWan Talents Project, 1 selectee into the New Century Excellent Talents Support Plan in the Ministry of Education, 1 winner of Science and Technology Prize for Youth in Hubei Province, 7 candidates for provincial New Century High-level Talents Project, 1 national teaching master, 4 national excellent teachers, 3 teaching masters in Hubei Province, 4 provincial (ministerial)-level teachers of excellence. Now 11 positions are open to specially-appointed professors of the Hubei “Chutian Scholars program,” and 24 Chutian Scholars have been engaged. A group of influential experts and scholars at home and abroad, including Chen Huanchun, Guan Chunyun and other academicians, have assumed positions for visiting professors. The University has made remarkable progress in scientific research. In recent 5 years, it has undertaken over 70 state-level projects, which include National 973-project, 863-project, National Natural Science foundation and National Social Science foundation, and more than 500 provincial (ministerial)-level scientific research projects. It has won over 40 prizes of provincial (ministerial)-level or above, including 5 prizes of national scientific and technological advancement and 3 prizes of outstanding achievements in Humanities and Social Sciences. It has published over 300 monographs and textbooks, and over 4500 academic theses, among which 960 have entered into “Three Major Indices” (SCI, EI and ISTP). The number of patents is 30 and the total amount of funding for scientific research is 240 million yuan. “Advanced Unit of Serving Hubei in Science and Technology” has been awarded to the University by Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Hubei Provincial Government. The University emphasizes the quality of personnel training，actively exploring ways to reform the training modes. Based on general education, specialty education of broad caliber is adopted for cultivating application-oriented talents with reasonable knowledge structure，sharp practical skills, high comprehensive quality, strong pioneering spirit and enterprising consciousness. The University also actively develops students’ extracurricular activities about science and technology by hosting events such as “Evergreen Science, Technology, Culture and Arts Festival”, College Students’ Entrepreneurial Competition, etc. In the last 5 years, 2 courses have been built into superior-quality courses of the state level, 17 courses into superior-quality courses of the provincial level, and 2 teaching teams into teaching teams of the provincial level successively. 12 projects have won Hubei Province Excellent teaching Achievement Prize. 140 students have been commended at the provincial (ministerial) level or above. Through opening doors to the outside world, the University has established relations with over 20 universities，colleges and academies from over 10 countries, including the United States of America, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Australia and Italy, in the aspects of personnel training, academic exchange and scientific research cooperation. Jianghan University (JHUN) is a public multidisciplinary university in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province. It is co-built by the municipal and provincial governments, but mainly endorsed by the former. At the approval of Ministry of Education, four universities and colleges—the old Jianghan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology Hankou Branch, Wuhan University of Education, and Wuhan Medical College for Workers merged to form Jianghan University in October 2001. In June 2002, the school moved as a whole to the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) . In 2018, JHUN was selected into the provincial list of “Double First-Class Initiative”, and its chemical engineering and technology discipline would participate in the country’s construction plan of first-class academic disciplines. In 2019, Xie Xianqi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, joined the faculty of JHUN, availing it to be the first university with a full-time academician among Hubei province-owned universities. JHUN’s Material Forming and Control Engineering was selected into the list of national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and other 17 undergraduate majors into the list of provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, both released by the Ministry of Education. The main campus of JHUN is located in a place of legends and folk tales, which used to be within the territory of Kingdom Chu. To its east lies the Yangtze River, and to its north is the Hanshui River, The land has profound cultural atmosphere and pleasant environment. Xie Xianqi, director of the academic committee of the university, is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a recipient of special government allowances from the State Council. He has won awards like the National Science and Technology Progress Award and others. His academic level in the engineering blasting field is in leading position both in China and in the world. In addition, two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science and one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering are dual-employed there. The university has been approved as the first equity incentive pilot university in Wuhan for the application of scientific and technological advances. As a high-end think tank, the Institute of Wuhan Studies has provided a large number of high-level consultancy services for the local government. Wuhan Jiangda Chedu Women’s Football Club is the only football club whose players are students at university and compete meanwhile in the Women’s Super League. Many of them are the main players of the present national football team. In Covid-19 pandemic, the affiliated hospital admitted 1,393 confirmed and suspected inpatients. The fever clinic received a total of 13,000 visits. Zhu Guochao, the physician from Critical Care Medicine Department, was honored the Outstanding Individual for his performance in fighting Covid-19 by National Health Commission. The alumna Xia Sisi died fighting Covid-19 and was honored as National March 8 Red-Banner Holders and awarded China May 4th Youth Medal. The open JHUN values international communication and cooperation, and has established stable links of academic exchange and cooperation with over 53 universities in 21 countries and regions.The JHUN dragon boat team won the championship for two consecutive years in the Uganda Dragon Boat Race and was praised by Wang Yang, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, who visited Uganda then. Afterwards, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, visited Jianghan university. The University cooperated with Athlone Institute of Technology in the Republic of Ireland to set up Sino-foreign cooperative education programs. It also established more than ten inter-school exchange programs and student exchange programs with universities in the United States, Germany, France, Japan and so on. Now more than 300 international students are studying in Jianghan University. The university has also established 12 international joint laboratories including the Nano Biomedical Engineering Center.

Focusing on engineering, Hubei University of Technology is a comprehensive university, covering eight disciplines including engineering, liberal arts, science, arts, economics, management, law, and education. Hubei University of Technology was originally established in 1952. In 1984, Hubei Institute of Light Industry merged with Hubei Academy of Agricultural Machinery to form Hubei Polytechnic University, and was renamed as Hubei University of Technology (HBUT) in 2004. HBUT is a key development university of Hubei Province, HBUT has been assessed as “a high level, standard-setting, and backbone university of the province’s higher education system” by the Party Committee and the Provincial Government of Hubei Province. In 1986, HBUT earned the qualification to confer Master’s degrees and recommend outstanding undergraduates to be exempt from the postgraduate entrance exam. It won the title “the university with an excellent graduate employment rate” in 2010. In 2014, it attained Tier 1 university status. In 2012 and 2016, it successively entered membership of the National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western and Central China Higher Educational Institutions. Characteristic Discipline The discipline of Atmospheric Science of NUIST was established in 1960 for the demand of meteorology cause of New China. It enrolled postgraduate students in 1978 and in 1981, it was approved to confer the first batch of master's degrees. In 1993, it was approved to confer doctoral degree. In 1999, a postdoctoral research center was established in the high-level discipline of Atmospheric Science. In 1988, the sub-discipline of Meteorology and Climatology under the discipline of Atmospheric Science was also designated as a key discipline by China Meteorological Administration. Meteorology was designated as a national key discipline in 2001. In 2006, it passed the National Key Discipline Assessment of the Tenth Five-Year Plan and was granted National Key Discipline of the 11thFive-Year Plan in 2007. In 2012, the discipline of Atmospheric Science ranked No. 1 in the third round of university discipline evaluation organized by the Ministry of Education of China. In 2017, the discipline of Atmospheric Science became a "Double First-class" construction discipline, and won the "A+" grade in the fourth round of university discipline evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education. Founded in 1958, Anhui Jianzhu University (abbreviated as AHJZU) is a multi-disciplinary university featured in civil engineering. Founded in 1950, Anhui Science and Technology University (AHSTU) is a provincial university with a long history and profound cultural heritage. AHSTU started undergraduate education in 1965, and now it is multidisciplinary university with coordinated developed disciplines. There are 17,226 full-time undergraduates and postgraduates, and more than 100,000 outstanding graduates for national and regional economic and social development. Today’s AHSTU has two campuses—Fengyang campus and the Bengbu Longhu campus, covering an area of approximately 2,000 acres with floor area of 580,000 square meters. The total value of teaching and research equipment is 250 million yuan. There are 5 basic experimental teaching centers and 26 experimental Centers (labs) for professional groups, and 7 discipline platforms. There are 3 national science and technology innovation platforms, 1 national off-campus practical education base for college students, 15 provincial science and technology innovation platforms, and 9 provincial demonstration experimental training centers. The university library has a collection of 1.37 million paper books and 1.28 million e-books. The university currently has 14 colleges and 50 undergraduate programs. It has formed a professional system of applied disciplines that focuses on our superior agricultural science and emerging engineering science, and multiple disciplines supporting each other and developing coordinately. There are more than 1,200 faculty members, including 394 professors and associate professors, and 863 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees. There are 11 national and provincial excellent teachers, 2 new century outstanding talents of the Ministry of Education, 5 provincial academic and technical leaders and reserve candidates, and 8 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council and the provincial government. It has off-campus provincial-level leading talent teams such as the micro-nano molecular sensor team. There are 4 provincial-level "115" innovation teams, 17 provincial-level teaching teams, 16 provincial-level teaching celebrities, and 34 provincial-level new teaching stars. The university vigorously promotes scientific research and technological development. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 1,600 scientific research projects at various levels, including the National Natural Science Fund and the Social Science Fund, more than 400 of them are at the provincial (ministerial) level or above. 65 academic monographs and more than 1,200 academic papers had been published. The university has won 71 scientific research awards above the city and department level. The university has obtained 1,055 patents, including 255 invention patents, which made it one of the top ten universities for many years in the Anhui Province. It has carried out more than 500 university-enterprise and university-local research cooperation projects with local governments and related enterprises. The university vigorously implements the "International Cooperation in Running Schools Project", and has established exchanges and cooperation relationships with 26 universities in the United States, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. The university currently has 3 national-level Sino-foreign cooperative programs, 255 students went to the United States and South Korea to study in double degree undergraduate programs, and 94 graduates went abroad to study for master degrees. In the long-term school-running practice, the university has formed a good teaching spirits "dedication and devotion, moral leading and nurturing, meticulous and rigorous scholarship, and pursuing perfection" and learning spirits of "diligence in learning, thinking, hardworking, unity and cooperation". The university got “Excellent” twice in the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching evaluation in 2002 and 2008 respectively. In 2013, the university was selected by the Ministry of Education as one of the first batch of the pilot institutions which receive the undergraduate teaching review and evaluation, and AHSTU was highly praised by the evaluation experts. In 2017, the university was approved to be a provincial high-level applied university, and successfully passed the project acceptance of the professional master's degree talent training project serving the national special needs, which made AHSTU be ranked among the "double first-class" universities in Anhui Province.
