Anhui University of Science and Technology is a high-level university with special features built in Anhui Province, a university jointly built by Anhui Province and the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People's Republic of China, a university supported by the National Midwest University Infrastructure Construction Project, and a university implemented by the Ministry of Education under the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program". The Huainan campus covers an area of about 3200 mu and the Hefei campus covers 340 mu. The university was founded in 1945, with the same root as Hefei University of Technology, and was the first engineering university in Anhui Province. 1955, the university was upgraded from Huainan Coal Mine Industrial College to Hefei Mining College, moved to Hefei in 1956, renamed as Hefei University of Technology in 1958, and in 1971, the whole establishment of coal-related disciplines and teachers of some basic courses were moved to Huainan. In 2002, the university was renamed Anhui University of Technology, and in 2022, the Anhui Automobile Industry School was incorporated into the university. The university has a high level faculty with a reasonable structure and a combination of full-time and part-time positions. There are more than 4,300 teaching staff (including directly affiliated hospitals), more than 970 staff with senior titles, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, eight national talents, 44 people receiving special allowances from the State Council, more than 80 provincial and ministerial talents, and more than 400 high-level experts and scholars serving as part-time professors, including 28 double-appointed academicians. The university has one national Huang Danian-style teacher team, four "115" industrial innovation teams, and eight teams of leading talents from Anhui universities. The university has a graduate school, 19 colleges (departments) and a directly affiliated hospital. The university has 6 post-doctoral research stations, 6 first-level doctoral programs, 34 second-level doctoral programs, 22 first-level master's programs, 113 second-level master's programs, 11 master's degree authorization categories, and 87 undergraduate programs. The university has 1 Anhui Class I peak discipline and 5 Class III peak disciplines. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, 7 disciplines were listed. The university has formed a school system with engineering as the main subject, featuring safety, advanced manufacturing, geology and mining, explosives and other disciplines, and the coordinated development of engineering, science, medicine, management, literature, economics, law and arts. The university has more than 31,000 full-time undergraduates and 5,800 doctoral and master's degree students. The university has 20 national first-class major construction points, 9 engineering education certified majors by the Ministry of Education, 6 national specialties, 4 national comprehensive professional reform pilot courses, 4 national first-class courses and high-quality courses, 1 national teaching team, 1 national experimental zone for innovation of talent training mode, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration centre, and 5 national engineering practice education centres. In 2016, it was approved as the first batch of provincial entrepreneurship colleges in Anhui Province. The university has deepened the education and teaching reform around the fundamental task of talent cultivation, and formed the innovative talent cultivation characteristics of "strong foundation, emphasis on practice, innovation and high quality". Since its establishment, the university has trained more than 300,000 talents of various kinds for the country. Five alumni, namely Chen Jing, Lu Bingheng, Peng Suping, Yuan Liang and Chen Xiangsheng, have been elected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The university is the "National Training Base for Employment Ability of College Graduates", the "First Batch of Universities with Typical Experience in Innovation and Entrepreneurship" (50 universities nationwide) and the "First Batch of Demonstration Universities for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform" (99 universities nationwide). The university has been carrying out scientific research and technical services closely around the economic and social needs, and initiated the establishment of the "Coal Safety Intelligent Precision Mining Collaborative Innovation Organization" in the coal industry. "Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the university has undertaken more than 2,300 scientific research projects, including more than 230 national projects such as the National Key Research and Development Program, the Base and Talent Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Social Science Foundation of China, with an average annual research expenditure of RMB 220 million. The university has received 31 first-class awards from the provincial and ministerial levels, one National Innovation Award, one China Patent Award, one Anhui Patent Gold Award, 150 awards from the Ministry of Education, Anhui Province and national industry associations for scientific and technological achievements, and more than 1,400 patents for domestic and international inventions. The university's State Key Laboratory was awarded the title of "National Advanced Collective of Professional and Technical Talents". The university has 42 research and innovation platforms at the provincial and ministerial levels, including the State Key Laboratory of Deep Coal Mining Response and Disaster Prevention and Control, the National Local Joint Engineering Research Centre for Safe and Precise Coal Mining, the National Demonstration Base for Training Innovative Talents, the Provincial Co-operative Innovation Centre for Intelligent Technology and Equipment in Mines, and the Key Laboratory of Industrial Dust Control and Occupational Safety and Health of the Ministry of Education. The university adheres to open schooling and has established strategic cooperation with more than 150 units, including local governments, state-owned enterprises and well-known universities. It has established the Institute of Environmentally Friendly Materials and Occupational Health (Wuhu), the Institute of Engineering and Technology for Energy Revolution (Jincheng) and the Institute of Advanced Studies (Hefei). As one of the contractors of Anhui Energy Research Institute, it is responsible for the research of efficient and clean utilization of coal; it is also involved in the construction of the Institute of Health Research and the preparation of the Joint Research Centre of Occupational Medicine and Health; it is involved in the construction of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and the Institute of Environmental Research. The university continues to expand international cooperation and exchange, and has established long-term and stable international cooperation with more than 60 universities and research institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Poland, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Singapore, South Korea and other countries (regions), and international students from 28 countries are studying for doctoral and master's degrees.
